Placement years are just one of the options available to students, employers and institutions within the broad spectrum of work based and placement learning. This new ASET workshop will explore some of the alternatives to a placement year by considering case studies from institutions who have embedded different work based and placement learning approaches within the curriculum.
Insights, employer projects, practice placements and experiential learning all offer students the opportunity to develop skills and consider their academic learning in the context of future careers to complement institutional graduate outcomes. This participative workshop will explore current practice and offer insights into some of the alternatives to a placement year.

The Alternatives to a Placement Year workshop was very insightful and well balanced in terms of structure. There was a good amount of time to hear from the facilitators as well as discussion between practitioners. I particularly liked the case study that Laura shared to understand how alternative work-based learning activities can be embedded into practice.
Interactive and friendly session, with a good overview of definitions.
