SUMMARY:Engaging with SMEs\, TSOs and Alternative Placement Providers
DESCRIPTION:Not all students aspire to a placement with a global brand\, household name or large organisation. For students studying some degrees\, placements with an SME (small to medium sized organisation)\, in the 3rd sector\, social enterprises and the like are attractive or\, simply put\, much more likely. However\, such organisations may not have established placement programmes in place or opportunities readily available. \nThey might not have considered hiring a student before\, and so there can be real challenges when reaching out to and engaging with this type of employer (and engaging students with such opportunities too). This participative staff development workshop aims to explore and consider techniques for engaging with these organisations\, ideas to attract students\, how to support these placement providers\, and what to do before\, during and after placements. There will be plentiful opportunities to interact with other delegates during the workshop\, and to hear about as well as share good practice examples from participants’ institutions. \nBook Now

SUMMARY:Supporting International Students with Placements
DESCRIPTION:Placements and work based learning opportunities can be extremely attractive to our international cohort\, within this workshop we will consider how to effectively manage your offer by exploring approaches and solutions for some of the common challenges that may be faced by placement practitioners\, students and placement partners. \nWithin this workshop we will consider the specific needs of international students and compare how these might vary from the needs of home students. Delegates will be encouraged to review the monitoring and placement support processes and mechanisms currently in place within their institution. We will discuss challenges arising from relevant contemporary issues e.g. visas\, post-Brexit\, remote working\, economic factors etc and identify ways in which to engage employers and encourage workforce diversification in order to benefit our incoming international market. \nBook Now
