We have a range of Working Groups which any individual working for an ASET member institution is eligible to apply to join; it is one of the many great ways to get involved with ASET. Working groups are convened to deliver on the aims of the organisation, are task orientated, and are made up of volunteers from member institutions. These are primarily email orientated task groups, but occasionally meet.
The Staff Development Working Group is responsible for planning and coordinating the regular programme of staff development workshops that are available all year round for members, and for identifying potential new topics for ASET Good Practice Guides. As a group we support ASET’s aim of promoting good practice, and providing a friendly environment to share ideas and discuss relevant topics. This involves ensuring we are offering workshops of interest to, and meeting the needs of, our members. To do this we try to ensure that we are up to date with current trends and anticipate topics of interest. As a group we meet online, reviewing the topics we offer and looking for new ways to work, for example we are currently exploring the use of Webinars and how best to support members in each Region. This Group is led by Lou Taylor-Murison, Keele University.
The Research Working Group is responsible for the review of research submissions to conference related to research, the Practice and Research Network meetings and the awarding of our student bursaries. This Group is led by Julie Udell, University of Portsmouth.
The Membership and Communications Working Group is responsible for the development of ASET membership, communications to members including social media, and our website. As a membership organisation ASET looks to communicate with placement practitioners to share good practice and this group is strongly supported by practitioners from across the membership in addition to Trustee members. The group coordinates and provides topics for the Regional Hub meetings, works with the ASET office to grow membership and promotes and reviews the ASET Student Competition, including presenting student awards to prize winners at graduation. This Group is co-led by Vicki O’Brien, University of Central Lancashire and Laura Bielby, Leeds Beckett University.
If you are interested in joining any of these groups, why not get in touch with the ASET Office by email and tell us:
We are always keen to welcome new volunteers, and to offer you the development opportunity provided by getting involved, so please do have a think about what you might have to offer.
If you are interested in getting involved with any of these working groups please contact the ASET Office on 0114 234 5197 or by email.
