ASET President Sarah Flynn commented: “The student competition is always a difficult one to judge; the applicants are great at drawing out their personal development and growth often focussing on their increased confidence in themselves and their ability to work with others. It is also gratifying to see them taking great strides in developing their professional understanding too, and connecting their placement experiences with their career aspirations and ambitions for success. Congratulations to our winner, and those who have been highly commended, another super year”
Shobika Subashkaran, University of South Wales
Shobika says she learnt a lot about productive workplace collaboration, teamwork, and the dynamics of working in a professional setting while working as an assistant accountant with the Rhondda Cynon Taff City Council financial team.
Her placement experience helped her to close the gap between her academic understanding and real-world financial application by working in a real-world finance environment. Her experience has had a big impact on her goals for the future, with a better knowledge of the operational and strategic demands of leadership, and the importance of team work and interpersonal skills.
